Thermic Lance Pipe

The Oxylancing process is commonly used in metal smelters to open tap holes, tundish nozzles, ladle sliding gates - for oxygen injection, ladle maintenance activities, skull cutting and scrap metal cutting.

Oxylances can also be used in the maintenance industry; it is an easy way to remove frozen pins on earth moving equipment or in industrial applications and for the demolition industry to cut fast through large volumes of concrete, where noise or vibration are unacceptable, or where speed is essential particularly on reinforced concrete. The equipment is extremely simple and easy to operate, and the capital cost in comparison to drills etc. is negligible

Sizing

Oxylances are sized by their outside diameter, as the clamping capability of the lance holder nominates the correct lance to use.

Types of Lancing Pipes

  1. Mild Steel Plain Lance Pipes
  2. Calorized Lance Lancing Pipes
  3. Wire filled Thermic Lance Pipes
  1. Plain Mild Steel Lancing Pipes

Plain Lancing pipes are ERW mild steel pipes, drawn to the required size. The pipes have a higher tensile strength because of the cold drawing process. Therefore, they will not easily bend during lancing. The ends are prepared as per the requirement of the customer & as per the supply information (detailed below).

Plain Mild Steel lancing pipes are commonly used where there is an abundance of combustible material present and a lower heat output is required.

Supplied in two standard lengths: 2.75m and 5.5 metre.

  1. Calorized Lance Lancing Pipes

Calorizing is a principle by which the surface of the material is modified through a process of diffusion of aluminum, when the lance is exposed to high temperatures. The gasified aluminum expands to form an alloy layer of ferroaluminum on the surface of the steel material, which protects it against severe oxidation.

Plain Mild Steel Lance will start to combust at 1,425 degrees C; while a Calorized lance will start to combust at 2,050 degrees C.

Depending on the application and circumstances, the Calorized Lance Pipe will last 3 to 10 times longer than the Plain Mild Steel Lance. Whilst the cutting speed and heat input is equivalent to that of the Plain Mild Steel Lance Pipes.

The cost of the Calorized Lance Pipe is not 3 - 10 times the cost of the Plain Mild Steel Lance Pipe. Hence there is a net savings in the cost of pipes used.

Another major factor to consider is the reduced time it takes to do the lancing operation. As you don’t have to change the lances as frequently; you maintain the heat and molten pool in the process, resulting in a faster cut.

This could save 5 minutes per operation, 18 heats a day = 90 minutes / per day. Results in saving on: Energy, staff exposure to heat, higher production yield, lower inventory cost and lesser space required for the storage of the lances.

There are also energy savings of heat in your production process and oxygen saving in the shorter lancing operation time.

Supplied in two standard lengths 2.75m and 5.5 metre.

  1. Wire Filled Thermic Lance Pipes

The Wire Filled Thermic Lance was specifically designed for cutting and piercing of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, with precision and speed.

This uniquely designed lance packed with wires and inner tube has the optimum ratio of Fuel to Oxygen, resulting in a high intensity flame of concentrated thermal energy; allowing you to cut through large objects with speed and ease.

The Thermic Lance can produce a combustion heat above 3,000 degrees C; it will melt solidified metals, slag, concrete, rock and refractory with ease.

Excessive oxygen pressure would ‘coldblast’ the cut or piercing process. The optimum burning factor is obtained by an operating pressure between 5 – 10 Bar high flow oxygen.

Due to the weight of the lances, standard recommended lengths are 2.75 metre.

Supply information

End connection options: plain pipe end, BSP treaded ends; or swaged for quick coupling.

Bundle size: 200/250 pcs per bundle for small OD pipes, 100/50 pcs for large OD pipes.

Oxylances need to be internally deburred and supplied free of oil & dust, suitable the use with oxygen.

Oxylances need to be kept and stored in a dry and oil free environment.
